COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
JACK KIT, HYDRAULIC, HAND (4-TON)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification GGG-J-60.
This commercial item description covers a hydraulic hand jack with various attachments used for exerting a pulling or pushing force. The National Stock Number (NSN) assigned to this kit is 5120-00-935-0772.
Salient characteristics:
Jack. The jack shall be a 4-ton rated remote hydraulic hand jack with a manually operated pump, a remote ram, and a hose assembly connecting the two. The pump shall have a lever operated handle and relief valve. The reservoir capacity shall be 10 cubic inches minimum and the displacement per stroke shall be .05 cubic inch minimum. The rams shall have a nominal 10 inch collapsed height and a nominal 5 inch plunger travel. The hose shall have a minimum length of 6 feet with a quick disconnect coupling at the ram end.
Attachments. The kit shall include the following attachments. The attachments shall safely withstand direct (concentric) loads of 4,000 pounds and indirect (offset) loads of 1,600 pounds.

One flexible (rubber) head, 3-inch diameter

Two 5-foot minimum length chains, 1/4 inch minimum diameter of link cross-section, each furnished with a hook on one end.

One ram (body) toe
Six steel quick-disconnect extension tubes, one 3 inches long, one 5 to 6 inches long, one 15 inches long, and the remaining three equaling not less than 47 inches in length with each tube being not less than 6 inches long nor more than 23 inches long.

Manual. A manual on the operation and maintenance of the jack kit shall be furnished. If a list of the components is not shown in the manual, a separate list shall be included.
Case. The jack kits shall be furnished in a plastic, wood, or metal case suitable for carrying and storing the kit.
Marking. Jacks shall be permanently and legibly marked with the rated capacity of the jack and the manufacturer’s name or trademark. Other major components shall be marked consistent with commercial practice.
Workmanship. The jack kits shall free from imperfections which may affect their appearance, serviceability, or durability. All parts shall be cleaned and free of extraneous materials and burrs, and sharp edges removed. Exposed surfaces shall be coated or finished in accordance with the manufacturer’s standard practice, except that cadmium plating shall not be used.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawing, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing and marking. Each jack kit shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Shipping containers shall be marked as specified in the contract or order.
