COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
EXTRACTOR, COTTOR PIN
The General Service Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification GGG-E-926.
This commercial item description covers cotter pin extractors required for removing cotter pins on automotive, material handling and all other types of mechanical equipment that employ cotter pin locking devices.
Salient characteristics:
Material: Steel, R 30-47
Finish: Treated to prevent corrosion.
Design: Similar to figure 1.
Length: 6-10 inches.
Ends: Taper to point diameter of 1/32 – 3/63 at one end, flat at the other and 5/16 – 3/8 inches wide.

Workmanship. The extractors shall not have rust, fins, burrs, or other imperfections which may affect appearance, usability, or durability.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing and marking. The cotter pin extractors shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed to assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with the National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
