Identification markiing. Each pry bar shall be etched or stamped in a permanent and legible manner with the manufacturer’s or identifying symbol of such known character that the source may be readily identifiable, part number, and country of origin.
Workmanship. All bars shall be free from imperfections which may affect their safety, appearance, serviceability, or durability.
QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
Sampling for inspection. Sampling shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105, Sampling Procedures and Tables for Inspection by Attributes, except where otherwise specified herein. The lot size shall consist of all bars offered for acceptance at one time. The sample unit is one pry bar.
Visual inspection. Each bar from the sample lot shall be examined for workmanship and marking requirements. The inspection level shall be I with an acceptable quality level (AQL) of 2.5 defects per hundred units.
Dimensional inspection. Each bar from the sample lot shall be examined for dimensional requirements. The inspection level shall be S-4 with an acceptable quality level (AQL) of 2.5 defects per hundred units.
Testing of end item. The inspection level shall be S-3 with an acceptable quality level (AQL) of 4.0 percent defective.
Hardness test. Hardness test shall be in accordance with ASTM E18 or ASTM E10. The impressions shall be taken 1/2 inch from the end tested. The manufacturer shall certify that both the cutting edge end and the taper end have been similarly hardened.
Physical test. The rolling head of the Type IV bars shall be rigidly secured by a vise or clamp in a manner to apply a load to straighten the angular hook. The test load specified in table I shall be applied to the body 4-3/4 inches from the tapered end in a direction perpendicular to the body. After applying the load, the pry bar shall not take permanent set and shall not fracture when so tested. The tapered end shall also be subjected to the same test except 4-3/4 inches of the tapered end shall be clamped and the load applied one inch from the rolling-head end.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580, as amended, to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
