COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCREWDRIVER HANDLE AND HEXAGON BIT, REPLACEABLE, ADJUSTABLE BIT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description for procurement of the Type VII screwdriver handle and bits specified in Federal Specification GGG-K-275D for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE.
This Commercial Item Description covers screwdriver handles with replaceable, adjustable, hexagon bits.
2. CLASSIFICATION.
Type I- Short Series
Type II- Long Series
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Handle. The screwdriver handle shall provide a comfortable grip, and shall be free from rough edges, sharp comers, or tool marks. The handle shall not have fewer than 4 flutes or more than 8 flutes. The screwdriver handle and bits shall be similar to Figure 1 and conform to the following material and dimensional requirements.
3.1.1 Handle Material. The handle shall be made of plastic and shall pass the “Handle solvent resistance test” of paragraph 5.6 of ANSI B107.15-1993 and the “Handle impact test at room temperature” of paragraph 5.7 of ANSI B107.15-1993.
3.1.2 Handle Dimensions. The handle diameter for sizes 0.035 inch and smaller shall be 9/16 inch plus or minus 1/32 inch. The handle diameter for sizes larger than 0.035 inch shall be 3/4 inch plus or minus 1/32 inch. The handle length for sizes 0.035 inch and smaller shall be 2-7/8 inch plus or minus 1/16 inch. The handle length for sizes larger than 0.035 inch shall be 4 inch plus or minus 1/16 inch.
3.2 Bits.
3.2.1 Bit material. The key shall be made of high grade alloy steel hardened and tempered to comply with the specified physical and mechanical requirements
3.2 Bit dimensions. The hexagon width across flats, hexagon width across comers and the chamfer length shall conform to the dimensions for bits in Table 8 of ASMWANSI B18.3. Measurements across flats and comers shall be taken 1/32 inch from the end on sizes 0.033 inch through 0.111 inch and 1/16 inch from the end on sizes 0.133 inch or larger. For bits with chamfered ends, the measurements shall be made from the end of the chamfer rather than from the end of the bit. The bit length shall be as specified in Figure I and Table I.
