COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CLAMP. C (VERY LIGHT SERVICE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Type I, Class E, Style 1 and 2,
Federal Specification GGG-C-406.
Scope: This description establishes requirements for a C-clamp (very light service) used for clamping and holding work in a fixed position.
Salient characteristics:
Material. Materials used in the manufacture of clamps shall be uniform quality and free from defects and imperfections that may affect their serviceability or durability.
Style: 1- Regular throat
2- Deep throat.
Frame. Steel, heat treated or malleable iron, designed to withstand minimum loads specified without evidence of damage or permanent deformation. The anvil of the frame shall have a smooth flat surface perpendicular to the center line of the class 2B, or better, right hand-threaded hole.
Swivel. Steel, ball and socket type, metal cap type or peened screw to pad, securely attached to the inner end of the screw. The swivel button shall be free to rotate and tilt on the screw when under no load but shall not rotate when under load by rotation of the screw.
Screw. The screws shall be of metal with a class 2A, or better, right-hand thread.
Handle. Non-removable slip-bar type handle 1-1/2 or 2 inches long, minimum, inserted through the outer end of the screw.
Finish. All surfaces of the clamps shall have a smooth finish with all edges rounded or beveled and shall be thoroughly cleaned and free of all foreign matter, fins, scale, flux, or any other imperfection.
Illustration. The clamps shall be similar to the illustration shown below.
