COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
WRENCH, FLARE NUT, SINGLE HEAD,
MODIFIED 12-POINT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Type XIV, of Federal
Specification GGG-W-636.
This commercial item description covers a single head wrench suitable for use with hexagonal flare nuts.
Salient characteristics:
Material: Forged steel, Rockwell C hardness of 42 minimum, 52 maximum.
Torsion Load: Wrenches shall be tested to determine the capability of meeting the test loads in the table herein.
Finish: Shall be chromium plated. Head peripheral shall not be more than 63 micro inches. All other surfaces shall not be more than 125 micro inches, as specified in ANSI B46 .1, and shall be capable of passing surface adhesion test herein.
Marking: Marked in a plain and permanent manner with wrench opening size on the faces or on the handle as close to the head as practicable and with manufacturer’s name or trademark, and country of origin.
Wrench Opening: Wrench opening shall he a standard 12 point (double hexagon) except that it shall be provided with a slotted opening to fit over tubing. Sharp edges shal1 be chamfered or rounded to eliminate burrs. Sized to pass the gaging requirements of ANSI B107.17M for the size specified for the National Stock Number (NSN) as shown in the table below.
