Identification marking. Each pinch bar shall be
stamped or etched in a permanent and legible manner with the manufacturer’s
name or identifying symbol of such known character that the source may be
readily identifiable, part number and country of origin.
Workmanship. All drills shall be free from imperfections which may
affect their safety, appearance, serviceability, durability.
QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
Sampling for inspection. Sampling shall be in accordance with
MIL-STD-105, Sampling Procedures and Tables for Inspection by Attributes,
except where otherwise specified herein. The lot size shall consist of all bars
offered for acceptance at one time. The sample unit is one pinch bar.
Visual inspection. Each bar from the sample lot shall be examined for
workmanship and marking requirements. The inspection level shall be I with an
acceptable quality level (AQL) of 2.5 defects per hundred units.
Dimensional inspection. Each bar from the sample lot shall be examined
for dimensional requirements. The inspection level shall be I with an
acceptable quality level (AQL) of 2.5 defects per hundred units.
Testing of end item. The inspection level shall be S-3 with an
acceptable quality level (AQL) of 4.0 percent defective.
Hardness test. Hardness test shall be in accordance with ASTM E18 or
ASTM E18. The impressions shall be taken 1/2 inch from the end tested. The
manufacturer shall certify that both the cutting edge end the taper and have
similarity hardened.
Physical test. The sample pinch bars shall be subjected to the following
tests: The entire offset end of the bar (dimension A, table I) shall ne rigidly
secured by a vise or clamp and the test load specified in table I shall be
applied to the body 2 inches from the tapered end in a direction perpendicular
to the body. The manner of applying the load shall be such as to straighten the
offset. After applying the load, the pinch bar shall not take permanent set nor
shall the offset end fracture when so tested. Three inches of the tapered end
shall be clamped and the bar shall be subjected to the same test except that
the load applied shall be one-third the test load for the offset end.
Regulatory requirements. The offerer/contractor is encouraged to use
recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580, as amended, to the
maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. Preservation,
packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract
or order.
