COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CAPS, VISE JAW
The General Services Administration has authorized the use
of this Commercial Item Description for the procurement of all vise jaw caps
specified in GGG-C-001378 for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
This Commercial Item Description covers vise jaw caps furnished in pairs for
protecting the finish of work held in vises having serrated jaw facings. The
vise jaw caps convert vises with serrated jaw facings to vises with smooth jaw
facings.
2. CLASSIFICATION
Not applicable.
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Material. The vise jaw caps shall be made of copper, brass, or
aluminum.
3.2 Construction. The vise jaw caps shall be furnished in pairs. One
vise jaw cap shall fit the front jaw of the vise and the other vise jaw cap
shall fit the back jaw of the vise. The front vise jaw cap and back vise jaw
cap may be identical. Each vise jaw cap shall be constructed of one piece of
material. Each vise jaw cap shall be provided with a lug on each end for
locating and retaining the vise jaw cap of the vise jaw. Each vise jaw cap
shall be provided with two long pliable metal extensions for the purpose of
fitting the vise jaw cap to the vise. The pliable portion(s) of each vise jaw
cap may be formed to the general shape of the vise. The pliable portion(s) of
the vise jaw cap shall not crack or break when the vise jaw cap is fitted to
the vise. The vise jaw caps shall be similar to figure 1.
