Loss of weight in shaping shall be not more than 30 percent. The nib shall be securely set in a hexagonal or round, rod-shaped, aluminum handle. The overall length of the scriber shall be 6 inches + 0.25 inches.
2.2 Material. Materials and components shall be of the quality normally used for this purpose in commercial practice provided the completed diamond point scriber complies with all provisions of this commercial item description.
2.3 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided they fall within the tolerances specified using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of ASTM E 380, and all other requirements of this
Commercial Item Description are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to
the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable. The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product.
2.4 Workmanship. The scriber shall be clean, well made, and free of burrs, scratches, or sharp edges (except for the point of the diamond). The diamond shall be free from fractures or large inclusions. There shall be no defects which impair the
durability, appearance, or serviceability of the item.
3. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Contractor recovered materials. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
4.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, shall conform to the producer's own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product that has been sold in the commercial marketplace for two years, or is the same product that has successfully been delivered to the Government on a previous contract or purchase order. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may
be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
