1.3 Hardness of hammer head. The hammer head shall be made of stainless steel and shall be hardened to 30to 50 HRC (Rockwell Hardness Test). Case hardened heads shall be not acceptable.
1.4 Handles. The handles shall be grade ”A” Hickory only.
1.5 Weight. The total weight of the hammer shall be not less than 672 grams (1.5 pounds) (weight will vary with the density of the hickory handle).
1.6 Crack detection. All hammerheads shall be 100 percent in-process inspected after heat treating, prior to finishing and assembly, and subjected a bidirectional wet magnetic particle inspection test in accordance with ASTM E 709. All surfaces shall be examined. If a hammerhead is found to have indicators of a crack, the manufacturer may grind or buff to eliminate this condition but must maintain the overall weight and dimensional requirements.
1.7 Color. The handle shall be flat finish natural wood, the head shall be flat metal grey and the nylon webbing leash be Camouflage Green 483 (CG 483), brown or black.
2. QUALITY ASSURANCE
2.1 Certification. The contractor shall certify, and maintain substantiating evidence, that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
2.2 Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practical.
2.3 Metric product. Products manufactured using metric units will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided that the products measurements fall within specified tolerances using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of FED-STD-376 and that all other requirements of this CID are met.
2.4 Visual examination. Each lot of hammers shall be inspected in accordance with MIL-STD-105. The inspection level shall be II and the acceptable quality level (AQL), expressed in terms of defects per hundred units, shall be 2.4.The lot size shall be expressed in units of hammers. The sample unit shall be one hammer. The hammers shall be examined for the defects listed below:
Finish not smooth and adherent; not free of burrs, rough spots, sharp edges, slivers, flat areas or projections; any component missing or not
